Louise Conde White was born in 1875 and attended Batavia’s East Side School before continuing to Batavia High School, and then Northern Illinois Teachers’ College in DeKalb. After receiving her degree in 1894, she began her teaching career, eventually teaching in the Batavia schools for 10 years. In 1922, White returned to her first school, East Side, where she served as principal for 12 years. When that school closed in 1978 and the new one opened on Prairie Avenue, it was named after Louise White in honor of her long tenure in the Batavia schools, servicing the community’s children.
