Hoover-Wood School

1640 Wagner Road

Hoover-Wood Elementary is named after two prominent educators, Eldora Hoover and William Wood. Mrs. Hoover taught for many years and, upon her retirement, continued as a volunteer both in the district’s reading programs and as a community volunteer helping immigrants learn to speak English. Mr. Wood, who was Mrs. Hoover’s son, worked at J.B. Nelson School, first as a teacher and then as principal. He was very active in the community, serving on the local police and fire boards, as a patron of the Batavia Public Library, and as a charter member of the Batavia Historical Society. Hoover-Wood Elementary was opened and dedicated to Mrs. Hoover and Mr. Wood in 2001.
